Professor Dr. SV Kumaraswamy is a renowned Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, a dedicated teacher, and an excellent surgeon, whose main area of expertise is Head Neck Cancer management
He started his profession as Assistant Dental Surgeon, General Hospital, Mandya, and completed his P.G. Studies M.D.S (Oral Surgery) at Govt. Dental College-Bangalore and worked as a Lecturer in Dentistry at Govt. Dental College. He moved on to the Kidwai Memorial Institute on Oncology and worked there as a lecturer of Oral Surgery and Promoted as an assistant professor.
Academic and Scientific Activities:
Dr Kumaraswamy a recipient of many awards and scholarships has lectured extensively at the State Conference, national Conferences and continuing Dental education programmes. His advanced training and recognition of his work includes
- TC White Visiting Fellowship, Glasgow & London, from Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow UK Regional Plastic and Maxillofacial Unit, Canies burn Hospital under Prof. K.F. Moos.
- Overseas Dental Advisor in India for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, U.K.
- International Cancer Fellowship ICRETT (UICC), Geneva, Switzerland to visit Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer, New York. In the Head & Neck Services under Dr Jatin P Shah, Chief Head & Neck service.
Dr Kumaraswamy Has contributed a lot into Research in area of Head Neck Cancers and has numerous publications in National and International Journals. He is Actively involved in Oral Cancer Awareness, Prevention and early detection.

Dr Ravi Deo did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Jabalpur and then went on to do his Masters in General Surgery at Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Mumbai. As a Senior Resident at TMH, he developed a keen interest in the field of Head & Neck Surgery. This led him to obtain a diploma in the field at the prestigious Institute Gustave Roussy in Paris, France where he also worked as a consultant.
Dr Deo established the first exclusive Head & Neck Oncology Dept. at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore in 1985. He subsequently established the Dept. of Surgical Oncology at Manipal Hospital,(1990-1997) and BGS Global Hospital (2011-2013) and currently runs a Head & Neck cancer clinic at Dr B G Rudrappa Hospital.
His areas of special interest are tumours of the parotid and thyroid and ladies tumours and his expertise in these fields in unparalleled. As a Head and Neck Oncologist, he works closely with various surgical specialities (such as the departments of Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery) to treat tumours of great complexity in very sensitive areas.
Dr Deo has a deep interest in academia and has also conducted live surgical demonstrations at clinical meetings within the country and abroad. He was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award in 1996 and the Kempegowda Award in 2006 for his contributions to the field of Head & Neck Surgery in India.
